Volunteering with NACDOR

Having originated through voluntary efforts and actions of committed Dalits, National Conference of Dalit Organisations (NACDOR) welcomes volunteers from all sections of society. Volunteers can contact NACDOR office for identifying a volunteering opportunity in education; research, trainings and experiential learning, or evolving programs, developing campaigns, building alternatives. We equally welcome those who would like to invest their time and efforts in playing with the children of Dalits and disadvantaged communities to enhance their confidence, boost moral and help them in social skills. Anyone could be a volunteer with us - young, old, women or men – all are equally welcomed. We believe that while working with the Dalits and other marginalised people, volunteers learn a lot and also make a valuable contribution to the society. PANCHSHEELA FOR NACDOR VOLUNTEERS

There are, however, Panchsheela – five principles that NACDOR considers essentials for anyone willing to volunteer with NACDOR. We therefore request all those desirous for volunteering with NACDOR to carefully consider and agreeing these. These panchseelas are:

1.      Never discriminate, in act or word, against any person or organisation on the basis of caste, gender, origin, religion, age, race or any other non-performance based criterion.

2.      As a volunteer with NACDOR, do not get associated with any activity, party, association, advocacy, politics, movement or agitations opposing constitutional rights of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Minorities, or other marginalised sections of the society.

3.      Do not support, advocate, participate or indulge in any violence except when forced to defend your self.

4.      Do not support totalitarianism, dictatorship or fascism of any kind.

5.      Respect dignity and rights of others.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY

p        EDUCATION
Seeks to eliminate illiteracy of Dalits, promote and organize supplementary classes to enhance educational knowledge and competitiveness of the Dalit students. They also take up study of schools and educational institute to see that Dalit children are not discriminated and demoralized for poor socio-economic background.

p       GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC SECTOR EMPLOYEES

Works closely with employees working in various capacities with the government and public sector undertakings and support them in tackling societal prejudice, discrimination and victimization that they might be facing in their offices at the hand of biased fellow officers or employees. They also educate Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and OBC employees about their constitutional rights and how they could be instrumental in helping others without compromising the interests of their family. They also promote and organize get-to-gather of employees and officers for a stronger communitarian bonding and belongingness. 

p       COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA

Volunteers can learn analyzing print, radio, television and other methods of media and communication. This analysis then could be used to eliminate bias and discrimination prevailing against the Dalits in communication sector. Volunteers can help Dalits in changing their media image by writing positive stories, presenting their day to day struggle for survival and their vibrant art and culture adequately.

p       COMMUNITY COORDINATION

Volunteers interested in community mobilisation and leadership building, can help in enlisting the support of other community organizations on issues affecting the interests of Dalits and other marginalised groups.

p       ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Volunteers primarily work to encourage Dalits to come forward to help themselves. They educate or encourage community, particularly young people to take up various economic activities, and also work toward economic empowerment through research, partnerships with public and private entities, and the promotion of business, industry, service, entrepreneurial skill development.
